Frosé Punch

Frosé Punch - a blend of watermelon, peach, and strawberries that creates a fresh, fruity, and sweet flavour, complemented by a mint sugar mixture to give it a more rounded taste. A seriously delicious drink for a seriously hot summer day!

The summer has officially hit us in the Netherlands. Summer just took some time to find a parking spot, it seems, but it did, and we can finally emerge from our caves and wear our short pants and prettiest dresses. But with wonderful sunny days also come heatwaves, sunburns (looking like a walking rotisserie chicken), and loads upon loads of sweat. I have no solution to the sweating, but I do have a solution to looking like a rotisserie chicken: wearing your sunblock (trust me, it’s important). Additionally, my new mini-series of Summery Rosé Blends that you can make to cool off and feel all luxe under the hot summery sun. There will be three drinks in this series, and the first one is Frosé Punch, and it only takes 7 minutes to whip up! It’s fresh, fruity and best of all it is alcohol free – try it out and leave a comment down below if you enjoy it!

TIPS & TRICKS / SUBSTITUTIONS

SUBSTITUTIONS

Alcohol

For this recipe and the following two recipes in the Summer Rosé Blends series, alcohol-free rosé wine will be used. Although it still contains 0.05% alcohol, where I live, any drink with alcohol below or at the 0.05% threshold is considered and sold as alcohol-free. Hence, this drink is not suitable for children, anyone below the legal drinking age, or anyone who strictly does not consume alcohol. On the other hand, if you prefer to use rosé (alcohol) wine, you can do that as well. Personally, I don’t enjoy the bitter taste of alcohol; hence, I chose alcohol-free rosé as my partner in crime.

Frozen Fruits

This recipe uses frozen fruit because we want that slushie/ice-blended texture in the drink, and the frozen fruits help us achieve that without the use of additional water. There should not be any additional water added to prevent the rosé from being watered down. Additionally, before freezing the fruits, make sure they are sweet and ripe. If they are not, they can still be frozen and used for the drink, but more sugar will need to be added later when making the drink to counter the unripe taste of the fruits.

STEPS ON MAKING FROSÉ PUNCH

Ingredients for Frosé Punch on a working surface

Begin by chopping the mint leaves really finely. Set aside. Prepare two bowls (that would fit the rims of your wine glasses), and have lemon juice in one and sugar in another bowl. Add the finely chopped mint leaves to the sugar and mix until well incorporated. Alternatively, to extract more of the mint flavour, use clean fingers to rub the finely chopped mint leaves with the sugar until the sugar has a light green tint.

Dip the rims of the wine glasses (you need about 2 wine glasses) in the lemon juice first, then in the mint sugar mixture. The combination of lemon and mint sugar mixture will balance the sweet frosé punch for a more rounded taste.

Pour the frosé punch into each wine glass and add the leftover mint sugar mixture on the drink as a garnish.

Enjoy it in the hot summer sun!
